Heat Siphon® is a stand alone heat pump designed specifically for recreational water heating (in ground, on ground or above ground pools, spas, hot tubs, swim spa's, etc.).

If you have an air conditioner, dehumidifier, water cooler or a refrigerator, you already own a heat pump. All these appliances use the same dependable technology to move heat from one place to another using electric power and a sealed refrigerant compression system.

Just like a room air conditioner moves 2 to 3 units of heat from your home for every unit of electricity it consumes, Heat Siphon® uses 1 unit of electric energy to MOVE 4 (or Five) units of HEAT FROM THE AIR which delivers 5 (or Six) units of heat to your pool water.

There are three basic sizes / models of Heat Siphon, all based on the Compressor Horsepower: 2.25HP, 3.25HP and 5.0HP. Sizing depends on your pools heat loss. Determining pool heat loss is quite complex, but some simple assumptions apply to both the higher latitudes and the warm tropics:

1. Most people swim when the daily average air temperature is over 70°F (21°C).
2. Most pool owners do not use a solar cover except in the coldest months.
3. Most pools are kept about 10°F (5°C) above the average air temperature.
4. Since pools lose about 75% of there heat due to evaporation of the water, a pool heater should be sized based on the pool surface area.

Based on the above we have found the following true about 90% of the time:

A 3.25HP Heat Siphon will heat pools between 500 sq ft (47 M sq) and 700 sq ft (65 M sq) in surface area even with little or no solar cover use.

Larger pools between 800 sq ft (75 M sq) and 1000 sq ft (93 M sq) will need a 5HP Heat Siphon and a solar blanket in the coldest month and in very windy locations.

The 2.25HP Heat Siphon is limited to very small inground or normal above ground pools.
